Blog 5: The NFL Combine

The NFL combine is held annually and is where invited college athletes are able to showcase their talents infant of all scouts from all 32 NFL teams. The athletes take part in measurements, on field workouts, individual meetings with team representatives, and physicals. The on the field workouts include the 40 yard dash, position specific drills, and many other strength related tests. The combine can often save a players draft stock or hurt it just as bad. For example if a Wide receiver comes in rated in the top 10 runs a slow 40 yard dash time, it wouldn’t be a shock to see them fall out of the top 15 once the draft comes. Athletes often train the hardest they’ve ever trained in their life in the 4-5 months between the end of the college football season and the NFL combine. They also try and find the best training facility to train at for the next few months to match their personal needs and desires. The combine can be seen as either a life saver and career starter, or could maybe ruin everything you’ve worked for. But the reason people love the idea of the combine so much is that if you put in the work, then it’ll show. If you don’t, then it will show. This is an even playing field.
